The village of Buchanan is located within the town of Cortlandt in Westchester County, New York. A predominately Caucasian area, the village is small, with a population of under 2,200 people. The community was named after the oil cloth works that Alexander F. Buchanan established. Buchanan is home to the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, which is a large provider of electricity for the Westchester County area.
The average income in Buchanan is above the state average, as is the median house value. Buchanan is considered to be largely an upscale community within Cortlandt and Westchester County as a whole.
As Buchanan is a small village, there are very few parks, churches, and service providers within the village; it is mainly a residential community, with residents commuting to work and shopping or finding recreation in other areas of Buchanan. You will, however, find one Methodist and one Catholic Church within the village, as well as Dickey Brook and Lents Cove Park, the village’s lone park.
The village of Buchanan, in the year 2000, donated the Christmas Tree for the decoration of Rockefeller Center. This is the most significant recent news out of the quiet village. With so little news-worthy stories, the area is a prime place to live.
