The village of Harrison is located in Westchester County, New York. Interestingly, it is also considered a town, with a government that is consolidated as a village/town government. Therefore, the name of “Harrison” refers to both the town and the village.
Harrison is considered a suburb of New York City, as is most of Westchester County. However, Harrison is one of the larger communities within the county, with over 24,000 occupants. Actually, the population rises by almost half during the work day, as many commute to Harrison to work. The town/village provides a number of industries in which to work, including social, health, and educational services. Real estate, insurance, and finance are also large means of employ within the town.
Harrison is also a much sought after place of residence due to a low crime rate (about one fourth that of the general US population) and high property values. With an average household income topping $80,000, this community is considered upscale, and most citizens are upper-middle class.
One interesting statistic is that, within Harrison, the percentage of the population who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree is significantly above the average for New York State. Perhaps this is the reason for the high income bracket.
