The village of Rye Brook, located within the Town of Rye in Westchester County, New York, was only established in 1982 and has been designated as “Tree City USA” for eleven years now. As of the census taken in 2000, the village has a population of 8,602, mostly designated as upper-middle and upper class.
The government in Rye Brook is made up of a board of five volunteer trustees and a mayor. The village has its own police and fire stations, though they are also contracted with the Port Chester Police Department to have that town respond to calls for them. They do not, however, have their own school system and are, in fact, divided between the Port Chester and Blind Brook School Districts.
Interestingly, many large companies are based out of Rye Brook, including Cadbury Schweppes and, by extension, its subsidiary of Snapple. Other notable businesses headquartered in the area include Kraft Foods and IBM. Cadbury Schweppes won’t be leaving the area for quite a period of time, as they signed a ten year lease to occupy approximately 135,000 square feet.
Much of the village is inhabited by white Americans, though there is some diversity, with a few African Americans and several Asians making their homes in Rye Brook.
