Tarrytown is a village located in the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County, New York. Though the population of the area is predominately white, there is a notable community of Ecuadorian and Dominican descent. The village is fairly affluent, with a median family income of over $82,000.
There are several points of interest within the village of Tarrytown, including the Lyndhurst mansion formerly owned by Jay Gould, built in Gothic Revival style. The former home of Washington Irving (renowned author of the popular story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow), which is known as Sunnyside, is also found within the limits of Tarrytown. In addition to these tourist draws, one of the oldest surviving theatres in the county, the Tarrytown Music Hall, remains standing within the small but lively village.

Marymount College has a campus within Tarrytown, a branch of Fordham University. The college is small, with a full time enrollment of just 829, but it is a significant source of income for a small neighborhood such as Tarrytown, whose population barely tops 11,000.
