The city of White Plains is the county seat of Westchester County in New York and is commonly regarded as the most important city in the county. Over recent years, this town that dates back to Colonial times has boomed, with population growth significant and major corporate headquarters opting to relocate from New York City to White Plains.
The city itself is a mere 30 minute express ride from midtown Manhattan, making it a favored location for the cosmopolitan crowd that commutes to New York City for work. In 2004, One City Place and Trump Tower, two skyscrapers, opened, opened in White Plains, offering apartments and shopping that drew even more attention to those looking to live outside New York City.
One drawback of the area is that it is commonly determined to be the second-most-expensive place in the United States in regards to cost of living, just behind New York City. Residents won’t find a cheap apartment in this upscale suburb of New York. However, if it can be afforded, the area is popular and convenient not only to New York City but also to the upstate area of New York.
White Plains also houses branch campuses of Pace University, Mercy College, and Berkeley College.
